According to him, 11 of the temperature changes were corrected in the 1923 edition.

Thanks,
KristofferAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8565740322635288835.post-4075221950541217842012-01-10T19:18:34.716-05:002012-01-10T19:18:34.716-05:00I did not say that Scott falsified his temperature...I did not say that Scott falsified his temperatures himself at this time, I said that it was done after his death.

Thanks,
KristofferAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8565740322635288835.post-13482829329793307772011-12-25T13:14:26.443-05:002011-12-25T13:14:26.443-05:00Kris, the Methuen edition of Scott's diary (pu...Kris, the Methuen edition of Scott's diary (published 1983 from the 1913 Smith, Elder edition) gives the +11° and +5° temperatures. I don't why the Gutenberg edition gives the temps in the minuses, but I don't think that you can blame this on Scott, which seems to be your main argument.

I have added a note in the post remarking on the difference. I will keep an eye on this in future posts. How else do you explain a regular temperature of -11 with a minimum of -5? Scott's recorded temperatures in his original diary for December 19 are +11 with a +5 minimum, as per Huntford, Race to the South Pole: The Expedition Diaries of Scott and Amundsen, page 196.

Thanks,
KristofferAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
